I have read the book by Pittacus Lore (James Frey and Jobie Hughes) and seen the movie. The movie has some major differences from the book, so I’ll start with the book. I’ll try to leave out a few major parts, just in case you haven’t read/seen the book/movie.

I am number four book

I Am Number Four by Pittacus Lore

The story is in the perspective of John Smith, or at least that’s his name at the moment. John is more commonly known as Number Four, from a planet called Lorien. He is one of the remaining 9 ‘Garde’ from his planet. Each Garde has a gaurdian that protects and raises their Garde to ensure that their Legacies (or powers) develop fully.

Lorien isn’t the only planet that sustanes life, however. There is a near-by planet called Mogador that holds a vicious race called the Mogadorians. The Mogadorians move from one planet to the next, using all of its resources and repopulating until the planet can no longer hold them. Years ago, they took over Lorien, which was when the 9 Garde were sent to Earth with their gaurdians. Now, with Lorien’s resources diminishing, they head to take over a new planet: Earth.

With Number One, Two, and now Three dead, John realizes the fate of his home planet and Earth is in his hands. One day when John is in school, his hands begin to burn and light up. Scared and disoriented, John rushes out of class and makes refuge in a janitor’s closet. In a panic, he texts Henri.

Henri arrives minutes later and tells John that he has recieved his first Legacy: Lumen. John also develops telekinesis (every Garde can do this) and animal telepathy (he was always able to do this, but he only realizes it later on).

Now, fast foward a bit. The Mogadorians have found John and Henri. John has told his friend Sam Goode and girlfriend Sarah Hart that he is not human. They both took it surprisingly well. The Mogadorians start to attack them. Just when John is cornered, out of nowhere a girl kills both Mogs, displaying power, agility, and..Legacies: She is Number Six. Number Six’s Legacies are telekinesis, invisibility, and elemental manipulation.

During a battle between a Mogadorian beast, John and Henri get badly injured. Henri gives John Loric salt, which heals you, but you feel the pain of the injury twice as bad. John recovers: Henri does not. With the combined powers of Number Four, Hadley (Bernie Kosar, who turns out to be a Chimera) and Number Six, they defeat all of the Mogadorians.

The difference from the book and movie:
The girl in the beginning of the book that is hanging out with John has a different name and appearence than in the movie.
In the book, the house in Ohio is a one story home; in the movie, it’s two stories.
Henri dies in the final battle in the book; the movie portrays Henri dieing by a railroad track after they escape the Mogadorians.
In the book, John gets visions of Lorien while he is practicing with his Legacies; the movie has none of that.

Overall, the book and movie was one of my favorites. The Lorien Legacies series is scheduled to be a 6 part series. The next book is The Power Of Six, and I’m excited to read it!

  1. It looks like we like the same sort of movies. I dont read too much. I saw this movie and cant wait for the next one to come out. Maybe I will read the power of six instead of waiting for the movie.

  2. I guess we do ^_^ I Am Number Four is a great book (and movie) so I’m sure The Power Of Six would be worth the read. I’m not sure when it comes out though.

  3. This movie had a lot of action and didnt rely on a love match like dumb twilight does. i like this because it mixes a lot of stuff together and had some cool effects that didnt look too cheap. i read the book and liked that too and i dont read much. just was wondering if anything new was here about the movies.

  4. I don’t know anything about a movie sequel, but I know The Power of Six book is in stores. I haven’t read it, but I’m definitely going to.
